The planning and drilling of deep boreholes is a complex process involving numerous geological and technical parameters. Depending on whether a well is planned as an , for example, exploration or production well different drilling tools, drilling muds, well cements or pipings are used.
Research and development in modern drilling technology often focuses on technical issues and process optimisation. Exemplary topics from the DGMK research are the increase of the drilling progress, the minimisation of the carrier damage by drilling mud, and the suitability of well cements under different conditions.
The working group Drilling Fluids is assigned to the Technical Committee for Drilling Technology.
