Reason and Goal

After production from a reservoir horizon has been completed, it is often necessary to permanently seal the inflow area in the respective well against the slope and possibly also against the formations in the underlying ground. The use of bentonite as a sealing material represents an additional option. As experience in shaft and roadway seals in salt mining, in well seals in the groundwater area, and initial experience in use in wells in fluid storage and the oil and gas industry shows, bentonite is an additional sealing material or one that can be combined with conventional construction materials.

Summary

In the project, a literature study will be carried out to compile the previous findings on the use of bentonite materials under environmental conditions such as those frequently encountered in oil and gas wells.

Status

The literature study has been completed.
