DGMK-Project Automotive Fuels
Cold Flow Performance of Diesel Fuel and Winter Operability of Diesel Passenger Cars- Rig Development (Part 3)
In project 764-1, two test fuels were tested in 6 rigs with different technical configurations, mostly developed on the basis of previous reference vehicles. On only one of the used rigs, a clear differentiation of the fuels DK-1 and DK-2 regarding cold operability could be achieved. There are strong differences in the highest measured fail values between the individual rigs. The results show that the currently used rigs are not suitable for a clear and comparable evaluation of the cold operability of winter diesel fuels. The need to develop an adapted rig or rig test is, based on these results, assessed differently within the project group.
The fuel supply system of a test vehicle from project 764-1 is used as a reference technology for the rig development. Some of the companies involved in the project support will adapt existing test rigs or build new ones.
TU Vienna has published the results. With the developed test method, a realistic and rapidly available test method for fuels and fuel systems is now available.
