The guide, which was produced in collaboration with BVEG e.V., is aimed at all institutions and individuals involved in deep geothermal energy. These include, for example, planners, project developers, investors, insurers, supervisory or approval authorities.
The guide introduces the processes involved in the drilling and testing phase of a deep geothermal project, offers a standardized and generally applicable risk management methodology and presents important tools for risk analysis. These include the risk matrix, the Bow-tie diagram, the SWOT analysis and the risk register. In addition, common insurance policies during the drilling and testing phase are presented and related to structured risk management.
This guide supplements the guide "Economic assessment of geological risks of deep geothermal projects", which was published in December 2024.
The German Association for Natural Gas, Petroleum and Geoenergy (BVEG) publishes the new guideline "Drilling risk management for deep geothermal projects" in the public participation process.
The participation procedure runs until May 19, 2025. Suggestions for improvement can be made via the Website of the BVEG be submitted.
