The DGMK awards honours and prizes for outstanding scientific achievements and for merits of lasting significance in its fields of work.
Carl Engler is regarded as one of the founders of the science of mineral oil. In his memory, the German Society for Mineral Oil Research has endowed the Carl Engler Medal. It is regarded as the highest recognition for those who have rendered outstanding services to the further development of mineral oil science.

Carl Zerbe recognized early on the necessity and value of the exchange of information and experience, and the cooperation between specialist colleagues. He was therefore one of the committed co-founders of the DGMK (1947), the Technical Committee for Petroleum and Fuel Standardisation (1949), the Coordination Committee for Research Work of the DGMK (1958), and had a decisive influence on the work of all three organisations. The result of the joint work resulted in his handbook "Mineral Oils and Related Products", which was published in 1952 and quickly became a standard work.
In 1964 he was awarded the Carl-Engler-Medal, and in 1966 he was appointed honorary member of our society.
While he was still alive, the DGMK donated the Carl-Zerbe-Prize in 1973 to promote young scientists. Since 1989 the prize has been awarded as the DGMK's prize for the promotion of young scientists with the addition of the "Carl-Zerbe-Prize". Since then, the DGMK Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists has continued the former Carl-Zerbe-Prize of the DGMK and the former DVGI Prize.
Carl Zerbe (1894-1985), German chemist, researcher in the field of petroleum research, and co-founder of the DGMK in 1947.
1 The DGMK awards the DGMK Prize for Young Scientists for outstanding scientific work by younger scientists (§ 18 para. 4 of the statutes).
In the case of awards for work in the fields of processing and application of carbon carriers, such as their conversion (gasification, liquefaction, pyrolysis, synthesis, hydrogenation and similar processes) of the resulting products, the sponsorship award is given the suffix: "Carl Zerbe Award".
The awardees are obliged to report on their work during a DGMK event Carl-Zerbe-Vortrag). The lectures will be published in the organ of the DGMK.
2. The DGMK Advancement Award for Young Scientists is awarded at unspecified intervals, at most twice a year.
3. The prize consists of a certificate and an amount of money, which is determined by the board of directors.
4. The prize is presented by a member of the board during a conference or general meeting of the DGMK or its departments.
5 The DGMK Sponsorship Award for Young Scientists is publicly advertised in the DGMK organ.
Justified proposals for the awarding of the prize can be submitted to the DGMK by anyone.
Self-applications are possible.
6. The decision on the awarding of the prize is made by the DGMK board on the proposal of the management of the department responsible for the subject. Appropriate experts can be called in.
The DGMK Prize for Young Scientists is a continuation of the former Carl-Zerbe-Prize of the DGMK and the former DVGI Prize for Young Scientists.
In 1858, Georg Hunaeus had the first deep drill sunk on German territory in Wietze, in what is now Lower Saxony, and struck oil. Although it would take several years before the "oil fever" spread in Wietze, the Hunaeus-well marked the beginning of industrial oil production; not only for Wietze, but for the entire Braunschweig-Gifhorn-Celle region.
Because of the great importance of this pioneering work, the DGMK has named its sponsorship award for young upstream researchers after Georg Hunaeus.
Since 1989, the prize has been awarded as the DGMK Sponsorship Prize for Young Scientists with the addition of the "Georg Hunaeus Prize". Since then, the DGMK Prize for Young Scientists has continued the former Carl-Zerbe Prize of the DGMK and the former DVGI Prize.
Georg Hunaeus (1802-1882), German mine surveyor, geodesist and university lecturer.
1. the DGMK awards the DGMK Sponsorship Prize to talented scientists for outstanding scientific work (Section 18 (4) of the Statutes).
In the case of awards for work in the fields of exploration, production and storage of hydrocarbons and hydrogen, deep drilling technology and geothermal energy, the award is supplemented by the words "Georg Hunaeus Award".
The award winners are obliged to report on their work during a DGMK event (Georg Hunaeus Lecture). An extended abstract of the work is to be published in the DGMK organ.
2. the prize consists of a certificate and a sum of money to be determined by the Board of Directors.
3. the award is presented by a member of the board during a conference or general meeting of the DGMK or its departments.
4. the DGMK sponsorship award for young scientists is publicly advertised in the DGMK organ.
Justified proposals for the awarding of the prize can be submitted to the DGMK by anyone.
Self-applications are possible.
5 The decision on the awarding of the prize is made by the DGMK Executive Board on the recommendation of the head of the relevant specialist department. Reviewers may be involved in an appropriate manner.
Please also note the applicable guidelines.
The DGMK Prize for Young Scientists is a continuation of the former Carl-Zerbe-Prize of the DGMK and the former DVGI Prize for Young Scientists.
Between 1988 and 2009 the DGMK- College was awarded to outstanding scientists from the subject areas of the DGMK. The awarded scientists were invited to give one lecture at three German universities each. Pursuant to a decision of the board of directors on January 14, 2016, the DGMK-Kolleg was discontinued.
