Underground storage facilities will play a key role in the energy landscape of the future. The ability to store energy will be immensely important in order to counter the volatility of renewable energy sources and provide energy on demand.demand to make them available. Even today, storage systems are an indispensable part of the system and represent a relevant community within the DGMK. In 2023, experts from E&P companies, universities and associations under the umbrella of the Department Geo-Energy Systems and Underground Technologies of the DGMK joined forces and founded the Energy Storage Working Group.

Goals
The aim of the working group is to discuss technical issues relating to the storage of new energy sources. and to bundle these in pre-competitive joint research projects in which experts from industry and science are equally involved.
