Development of a Dynamical Test Method to Evaluate Combinations of Oil and Elastomers with Respect to Friction and Abrasion

Aim of the current research project is the development of a dynamic test procedure for the RWDR-Tribometer, to determine the friction and wear behavior of elastomer materials with simple standard test bodies. The new test method should allow a relative comparison of different elastomer materials in their interaction with different oils for several sealing applications. Conditions for a dynamic standard test with the RWDR-Tribometer are uniform test parameters and test conditions to enable a comparability of measurements with the RWDR-Tribometer independent of the manufacturer or the user. For this reason a test procedure has to be developed, which contains all test parameters and test conditions. This test procedure should be developed in such a way, that is generally suitable as a standard wear and frictional measurement method for elastomer materials in the sealing applications. Furthermore a calibration procedure has to be developed, which should guarantee the quality of measurements with the RWDR-Tribometern, so that a comparability of measuring results with the RWDR-Tribometern, so that a comparability of measuring results with RWDR-Tribometers is given independent of the location or the user.
