Research report published: Rolling bearing greases in robot technology

With the widespread use of robots in industry, more and more bearings are operating under oscillating conditions with grease lubrication.

The BMWi has funded a research project in which the behaviour of lubricating greases in oscillating bearing operation was investigated. This mode of operation places requirements on the lubrication system that differ significantly from those for rotating operation. In order to determine the decisive influencing factors on the suitability of a grease for oscillating operation, the greases were investigated with regard to their rheological properties and examined in rolling bearings and model contacts. The focus was on identifying a correlation between the rheological parameters and the real behaviour in the bearing.
