A sustainable, global energy transition needs a reinvented energy industry. Where are the new business areas of the subsurface sector? What are their visions? What know-how does the geothermal, hydrogen storage, CCS and E&P subsurface industry need ? We open the stage for the energy players. What are your questions to the industry?

Maike Dupont is a highly experienced professional in marketing, communications, and project management. She graduated from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster with a Magister Artium degree in communications science, political science, and economic policy after completing an apprenticeship as an industrial businesswoman and participating in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange, a program for young professionals, with studies and internships in Seattle, WA and Washington, D.C.

Since 2007, Maike has worked in various roles at E.ON Ruhrgas AG and E.ON Gas Storage GmbH. Since 2016, she took on the role as Manager Stakeholder Relations at Uniper Energy Storage GmbH, where she coordinates internal and external communications for the company and its storage locations as well as for innovative projects, such as hydrogen storage. She also works with industry associations and manages political stakeholder relations.

Lisl Lewis is 25 years into a career in the applied earth sciences that has seen her working across different sectors of the energy industry. She holds a M.Sc. in Geophysics from San Diego State University and did her BSc studies in Geology and Geophysics from University of California, Santa Barbara and University of Leeds.

Her early career was in mining exploration, where she ran geophysical surveys (resistivity, potential fields) across the US, Canada and Mexico and developed a passion for field work. The mining geophysics work morphed into some experimental research collaborations, which led to her involvement in the pioneering movement to commercialize Marine MT (magnetotelluric) and Marine CSEM (Controlled-Source Electromagnetics) in the early 2000's. Lisl was the Party Chief offshore and then the Operations Manager back in the office for a start-up company in California before turning back towards research and instrumentation after her company was acquired by Schlumberger (now SLB).  

Lisl then worked in the training department of SLB at the corporate level for over a decade before circling back to her roots in geoscience in March 2022 and is now happily doing business development and project work for GeothermEx, based in Sussex, England. 

Peter Michael Holzapfel started his career at Siemens in 2011 as Senior Account Manager Renewable Energies. He currently holds the position of Senior Consultant Hydrogen Market.

Ole Engels is Director for Energy Transition at Baker Hughes, a Fortune 500 company. His role includes subsurface applications in CO2 sequestration, geothermal, hydrogen and energy storage. Ole has 25 years of experience in the Energy Industry. His background spans operations management, strategic planning, sales and M&A, as well as technical and management consulting with postings in Europe, the Middle East and the US.

Tobias Rudolph took over the professorship for geomonitoring in old and post-mining at the Georg Agricola University of Applied Sciences (THGA) in Bochum in April 2019. Previously, he worked for several years as a geological expert at Shell International Exploration and Production in the Netherlands.

Our moderation

Gesa Netzeband is Managing Director of DGMK, Deutsche Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für nachhaltige Energieträger, Mobilität und Kohlenstoffkreisläufe e.V..

With a background in geoscience, Gesa has spent a few years in academic research before entering the E&P industry, where she has worked 12 years in various positions. She has led multi-disciplinary teams in exploration and business development projects and has been involved in projects on strategic corporate level. As lead portfolio and digital self services she has shaped the Digital Transformation journey of Wintershall Dea, before joining DGMK in 2020.
