DGMK Regional Group
Upper Rhine

The Upper Rhine region has a long tradition of oil production and processing: there is evidence of oil production in Pechelbronn in France since 1498. Even today, the coveted raw material is still being extracted downstream in Speyer from the largest known oil deposit on the German mainland. In neighbouring Karlsruhe is one of the largest German oil refineries and in Ludwigshafen one of the largest chemical sites in the world.

The long-standing Engler-Bunte Institute for Energy Research is also based in Karlsruhe at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Here, among other things, research is conducted on the energy sources of the future, which are to succeed the fossil fuels of today.

The energy transition and the associated change in established structures and processes is also the main topic at the events of the Upper Rhine regional group.

Selected topics from past events:

  • Alternative Fuels
  • Renewable Energies and Raw Materials
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Energy Research
