A Geostatistical Model of Facies-Architecture and Internal Heterogeneity of Rotliegend-Reservoirs developed from Outcrop-Analogues - Outcrop-Analogue Study Cutler Group (Utah/USA)

The primary aim of this study was the collection of size distribution parameters suitable for geostatistical and object-based modeling of mixed aeolian-fluvial reservoirs. These data should help in the interpretation and understanding of lateral and horizontal facies relationships and thus fill the gap between the sparsely distributed data from wells, and the „large scale models" developed from geophysical investigation. Detäiled studies were undertaken during two field seasons on very well exposed outcrops of the Permian Cutler Formation in southeastern Utah/USA, where a variety of fluvial, aeolian and lacustrine facies was displayed. Three main study areas where chosen, which show a facies inventory representative of a mixed fluvial/aeolian, aeolian and Sabkha depositional setting.
