Working Group

Carbon Capture (Utilization) and Storage (CC(U)S)

Topics

The DGMK can look back on many years of research activities in the field of CC(U)S. The topics range from research into EOR through CO2 injection to investigations into the possible uses of solid carbon, which is a product of the production of turquoise hydrogen. A comprehensive network on the subject of CC(U)S has been established and is being put into practice.

Motivation

The CC(U)S working group was founded in 2022 against the backdrop of the need for CCS to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Germany. In the short term, CCS can be used as a transitional technology in industries with emissions that are difficult to avoid. In the long term, CCS in combination with Direct Air Capture (DACCS) and Bio-Energy (BECCS) will enable CO2 to be permanently removed from the atmosphere.

The working group is made up of experts from deep borehole mining, CO2-emitting industries and research institutions.

Presentations on current topics are given and discussed during the meetings. Open questions are introduced into the DGMK community research.
