DGMK-Project Production Engineering

Literature study - The application and added value of artificial intelligence (AI) using the example of an oil field.

Duration
01.06. 2021 - 01.04.2022
Research Center
Clausthal University of Technology: Institute for Software and Systems Engineering - Prof. Dr. Andreas Rausch
Project Accompaniment
ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH, Hanover - T. Hennig
Vermillion Energy Germnay GmbH & Co. KG, Hanover - A. Gobi
Wintershall Dea, Kassel - S. Liermann, S. Schröder
OMV Exploration & Production GmbH, Vienna - D. Winkler
Reason and Goal

The use of AI should serve to reduce the specific costs of oil production without compromising safety, environmental protection or integrity. Against this background, the study aims to show which areas of application exist for AI in a maturen oil field and how these are to be evaluated economically.

Summary

The application possibilities for the added value determination of artificial intelligence in the maturen oil field are to be carried out in a literature study. The object of consideration is the delimited area from the probe itself (incl. pump) to the transfer station incl. pipeline system. The application possibilities and potentials of AI techniques from the areas of knowledge discovery in databases, predictive maintenance, time series forecasting, model building, model-based and model-free optimal control and regulation will be investigated and described.
