DGMK/GSSPE WebSeminar: Short study - Provision of hydrogen with low GHG footprint

Date
09.12.2021
Time
16.00 - 17.00
Venue
Zoom (online)

Abstract

Hydrogen is seen in many places as an important energy carrier of the future. Its use produces no greenhouse gas emissions. It is essential for industrial applications and in particular enables greenhouse gas reductions in some important industrial processes, such as iron smelting. It is also storable and can be generated from renewable surplus electricity.

The web seminar will present the various options for hydrogen production. Green, blue, turquoise and bio-hydrogen will be considered. The focus is on blue hydrogen from natural gas, in which the carbon dioxide produced is separated during generation and injected in the long term.

The costs and remaining GHG emissions expected for each generation pathway are presented in a comparative manner.

Speaker

Andrej Awgustow is a process engineer and has been working in the Refinery Technology and Alternative Fuels Research Group at the Reaction Engineering Chair of TU Bergakademie Freiberg since 2013. During this time, he has worked on projects such as the hydrogenation and subsequent isomerisation of vegetable oils and the conversion of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis products into standard-compliant jet fuels. Furthermore, he was responsible for the DGMK project 815 "Production of greenhouse gas-reduced or greenhouse gas-neutral gaseous and liquid energy sources and fuels", in the framework of which a large part of the results presented in the lecture were developed.
