About the WebSeminar

Over the last 12 months we have seen the oil & gas industry enter, and begin to emerge out of the deepest downturn in history. While the current ~$70 oil price reflects the return of global demand, the theme of E&P capital discipline that this downturn only further cemented will remain. For operators to keep production at a level to meet demand, and simultaneously keep a tight reign on CAPEX to facilitate return for shareholders, their well construction operations will need to be de-risked and more efficient than ever before. Additionally, E&Ps will likely continue to view ESG targets with high priority, both for regularity reasons, but also to remain in favour with the investment community.

The voice-of-the-customer is clear; that digital, and remote, are viewed as being poised to deliver innovative and effective solutions to these challenges.

This WebSeminar will:

  • Detail the development and deployment of a SCADA drilling automation system, allowing closed-loop control of rotary-steerable drilling systems, setpoint issuance to rig control systems and intelligent alarming through continuous comparison with real-time engineering models deployed in the context of a 3D earth model.
  • Demonstration of how these technologies are delivering KPI improvements, as well as empowering contemporary remote operations service delivery models, noting the facilitation of essential carbon-footprint reduction.
  • Exhibit specific examples of record-setting case studies, as well as longer-term, field-wide datasets demonstrating performance improvements from both offshore high-technology, and onshore lower-spread rate markets.

About the Lecturer

Matthew Forshaw started his career in the upstream Oil & Gas industry as a field engineer for Baker Hughes Drilling Services' business. After moving through several operations roles, he moved into systems engineering to bring domain knowledge to the technology department developing Baker's automation platform. This included the system which drilled the world's first section from an offshore installation in closed-loop control of directional drilling assembly. Matthew now leads development of a suite of disruptive digital products which strive to reduce upstream well construction CAPEX for E&Ps through NPT & ILT reduction, process digitization & automation, and enablement of remote operations. He has a BSc in geology and geophysics from Lancaster University and the University of Calgary.
